FC Barcelona’s midfield overhaul – Maxime Lopez and Mahmoud Dahoud
Barcelona enter battle for signature of young gun Mahmoud Dahoud
Dahoud has drawn the attention of many with his performances at Borussia Monchengladbach. This includes the likes of Jurgen Klopp, Txixi Berigistain and now, Robert Fernandez. Liverpool was the club Dahoud was most likely to go to in the summer. But he turned them down, opting to stay at Gladbach. Klopp has decided against bidding for him in January but will instead pursue a summer transfer. Borussia Monchengladbach may even be forced into selling Dahoud. After snubbing a move to Anfield in the summer, the Syrian-born playmaker is yet to commit his future to his club. His contract has 18 months left to go and his agent has entered talks with Gladbach. But the prospect of pulling on a Barcelona shirt may appeal to him a lot.
Apparently, Barcelona are looking to overhaul it’s midfield. The club had already signed two midfielders in the summer in the form of Andre Gomes and Denis Suarez. But the Catalans are in a bit of a fix regarding finances. Despite what people think, Barcelona is a fan-owned club. It does not have infinite money like corporation-owned clubs like Manchester United and Chelsea. Despite the squad not having deadweights, we certainly do have players we can dispose of. Ivan Rakitic and Arda Turan fall in that list. Robert Fernandez can refill the club’s coffers by selling them and getting cheaper and younger alternatives. Although Philippe Coutinho does not fall in that list, Mahmoud Dahoud certainly does. Therefore, we can expect Dahoud can potentially become a Blaugrana next summer, if Rakitic leaves.
