Barcelona Boss Luis Enrique Had Nerves Throughout CDR Match
Luis Enrique said that he was nervous until the final whistle of the 1-1 draw between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
Barcelona drew with Atletico Madrid 1-1 at Camp Nou on Tuesday night. Despite that result, it was enough for Barcelona to advance to the Copa Del Rey final once again. The Blaugrana managed to win 2-1 at the Vicente Calderon. That result was the difference in the tie as Barca won 3-2 on aggregate. Despite the success throughout the tie, manager Luis Enrique was nervous about Atleti and rightfully so.
Atletico have provided Barca with many tough tests over the last few years. Lucho has been defeated by Diego Simeone’s men before. However, that was not the case this time around as Barcelona are through to the final. They’ll be looking for their third consecutive Copa Del Rey championship. Luis Enrique talked about what he was feeling during the pressure packed tie with Atletico Madrid.
“I don’t like these type of games, they do a lot of damage to me,” said the coach. “I’m not happy. Tomorrow I will be, but I am not now. It’s going to be a long night. I had a horrid time throughout the whole game. The whole game. It’s a game to properly and deeply analyze. We’ve had to beat Hercules, Athletic, Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid. We’re in the final and we have to enjoy it. We have to look at the forest, not just the tree. The tension of the game took its toll. It’s normal that we lose so many balls. But I have complete confidence and faith in my players and in finding solutions.”
Overall, there are many good things to take away from this match. Luis Suarez got a goal and his form is back to the very best. However, El Pistolero may have to miss the final due to a red card given at the end of the match. Barca will likely appeal this decision. In addition to this news, the team managed to hang around in the midfield without their two leaders Busquets and Iniesta. Hopefully, the trend continues into the coming weeks as the big matches begin to arrive.
