Athletic Club’s Ernesto Valverde: The Next Barcelona Boss?
Could Athetic Club boss Ernesto Valverde be the next coach of FC Barcelona? Reports are certainly indicating that it could be the case.
Mundo on Monday reported that Barcelona have signed two years long contract with Athetic Club’s boss Ernesto Valverde. According, to report published on site, both RAC1 and Radio Kanal has reported that Valverde has already signed the contract. Despite this news, there are also reports stating that a deal is not in place yet.
Mundo Deportivo quoted several important FC Barcelona officials: “There is nothing at all. Until Monday 29 May, after the Cup final , there will be nothing. That day will be decided in the Sports Commission. In addition, it must then go through the board.”
Valverde, the manager of Athletic Bilbao, has a contract that is ending this summer which might be the reason of all these rumors. However, nothing is true until the Barca board of directors led by Sporting Director Robert Fernandez and President Josep Maria Bartomeu announce the next manager.
Luis Enrique, the current Barca boss is leaving the Catalan club after a disappointing 2017 season. Barca are likely to not win La Liga after winning it two years in a row. The club already said that they will reveal new Barcelona’s boss name after the Copa del Rey final where Barcelona have to face Alaves in Vicente Calderon on 28th May.
After the Copa Del Rey final, Lucho will leave his post and the speculation will begin. The fans will be anticipating the new manager over that time and we’ll see if the move pays off for everyone. There are also other decisions to be made on players leaving and coming in this summer so watch out for that.
Overall, the coming summer and the next season is very crucial for Barcelona’s success going forward. Despite the other good things over the years, Catalan giants have lost three Champions Quarter finals in the last four years. Valverde must be ready to step in and take the reigns of the club if he is indeed the new manager. Although the decision hasn’t officially been made, we could have the news very soon.
