FC Barcelona transfer update- Ignazio Abate and Mattia de Sciglio

The Italian duo are teammates at AC Milan and Robert’s scouts are closely following them to possibly push for a transfer to Barcelona

  • Ignazio Abate The Italian is a like-for-like alternative to Hector Bellerin, who has ruled out a return to the Nou Camp. Pace, acceleration and agility are his key attributes. He peaked during the reign of Massimiliano Allegri and but lost his place in the first-team under Sinisa Mihajlovic. But he is not a regular in the Italian national team and has only 22 caps to his name. Also, he is 30 years old, making him only a short-term solution to Barcelona’s right-back problem. But his natural attacking intent and good crossing ability can make him a serious target this January.

  • Mattia de Sciglio The young right-back is also a AC Milan player. After his rise from the youth team to the senior squad, comparisons between him and club legend Paolo Maldini began to appear. But he failed to live up to high expectations as Ignazio Abate flourished in the right-back position. But his meteoric rise started under Serbian head coach Sinisa Mihajlovic. He impressed his manager and solidified his place in the first-team, replacing the ageing Ignazio Abate. He also showed his versatility in many situations, replacing left-back Luca Antonelli when he was injured and playing the whole Euros in the LB position. Overall, he is a very good target for Barcelona and Robert is right to chase him. This January, a move for him may not take place but it certainly is a possibility next summer.
