Pep Guardiola says Barcelona have not had a poor start to the season, and believes his old club’s recent poor form could be a good thing.
Barca have won just three of their last eight games in all competitions, including a run of three draws in their last four, heading into Saturday’s Clasico against Real Madrid.
On Wednesday they could only manage a 1-1 Copa del Rey draw with Hercules, who are 10 points behind Barca B in the third tier of Spanish football.
It was put to Guardiola that Barca, who he represented as both player and coach, have had a poor start to the campaign, but he disagreed.
“I don’t think it’s a bad start,” he said. “Barcelona are there to be able to win the league. Tomorrow I hope they can win.
“They’ve qualified well in the Champions League, they are in all the competitions. Sincerely, when teams win so, so, so many games, they lose a title or they lose from time to time, it’s good, and for Barca it’s very good.
“It will be a great game and I hope they can demonstrate what they are.”
Barca are six points behind Madrid heading into Saturday’s game at Camp Nou.
